The Island Chamber Singers is starting its 16th Season of bringing classical choral literature to Amelia Island. We are excited about our repertoire for this new year.
We will begin with Christmas Joy which will feature “The Many Moods of Christmas”, Suite Three, arranged by Robert Shaw and Robert Russell Bennett. We will introduce you to classical Christmas music from the Renaissance through the twenty-first century. All of it extremely accessible to every listener. Of course, we will conclude our concert with Rutter’s “I Wish You Christmas” a favorite of our audiences for several years. The chorus of fifty members will be accompanied by a large orchestral ensemble. We truly plan to ring in the Christmas spirit with this concert. Performance dates are Friday, December 6th and Sunday, December 8th in 2019.
The Spring Program will feature a major work by Johannes Brahms, A German Requiem. This particular Requiem is unique in the literature in that it is not biblically based. One of the favorite choruses from the work is “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place.” It is scored for soprano and baritone solos, chorus and orchestra. Though originally written in German, the Requiem will be sung with English text. Dates for these performances are Friday, March 27th and Sunday, March 29th in 2020.
